The European Union congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum on her historic election as the first female president of Mexico, and through a statement issued in Brussels, the European bloc praised the Mexican people for their strong commitment to democracy that was demonstrated throughout the general election campaign and on Election Day.
“The European Union wants to strengthen its strategic partnership with Mexico, built on common interests in many areas, and on a shared commitment to democracy, human rights and the rules-based multilateral global order,” the statement said.
The European Union looks forward to working with the newly elected authorities to deepen cooperation for the benefit of our citizens in all areas of common interest, such as economic relations, green transition, social inclusion, security and the digital agenda.
