NATO Secretary -General: The Washington Summit next month will discuss a greater role for the alliance in coordinating and providing security assistance and training for Ukraine

The Secretary -General Yans Stoltenberg visited the Swedish armed forces at the Berga Naval Base, on his first visit to Sweden since the country joined NATO in March. After his meeting with Prime Minister Olf Christbson, Stoltenberg confirmed that Sweden's membership made NATO stronger and Sweden more safe.
At a joint press conference with the Secretary -General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg and Sweden Prime Minister Olf Christbs, a statement issued in Brussels after the talks last week.
 The Secretary -General has highlighted the many contributions of Sweden to the coalition, including high -capacity forces and advanced capabilities. He added that Sweden also spends more than 2% of the gross domestic product on the defense and strengthens "our presence at least in the North Al -Aqsa region and the Baltic region." Mr. Stoltenberg also welcomed the announcement of Sweden's contribution to the NATO air police. The Secretary -General said: "This explains how Sweden made great contributions to our alliance, just three months after you joined."
Regarding Ukraine's support, Stoltenberg praised Sweden for its leadership and presenting billions of euros, making it one of the largest supporters. Sweden also welcomed the delivery of two advanced radar surveillance aircraft to Ukraine as part of the largest assistance package provided by Stockholm so far.
At the Washington Summit scheduled for July, the Allied leaders will discuss a larger role for NATO in coordinating and providing security assistance and training for Ukraine. The Secretary -General also proposed a multi -year financial pledge to ensure more accountability and prediction. These efforts "will send a clear message to Moscow that Moscow cannot wait for us to end in Ukraine. The paradox is that the stronger our commitment to Ukraine in the long run, the faster this war can end.
