The European Union Presidency organizes a high-level conference on organ donation and transplantation in light of the high demand rates

Budapest: Europe and the Arabs
The current rotating Hungarian presidency of the European Union said that a preparatory session began today, Wednesday, to hold a high-level conference on organ donation and transplantation tomorrow, Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the Marble Hall of the Ministry of the Interior in Budapest, hosted by the Hungarian presidency.
According to a statement on the European Union Presidency website, the conference has been carefully prepared to cover a variety of topics, including institutional and policy frameworks, improving operations, financing programs and research, education and training, addressing inequality, and measuring best practices.
Hungary, with a rich history of pioneering achievements in the field of organ transplantation, embodies the spirit of innovation and dedication necessary to advance this vital field of medicine. Since the first kidney transplant in 1962, Hungary has developed a comprehensive and effective transplant system.
In the European Union, the practice of donating human organs for transplantation has greatly advanced healthcare, providing a cost-effective solution for treating severe non-communicable diseases affecting vital organs. Collaborative efforts by the European Union, especially through the legislative framework and action plan for the period 2009-2015, have led to an increase in organ donation and transplantation rates. Despite these achievements, the demand for organ transplantation continues to rise, driven by the continuing burden of advanced non-communicable diseases and an aging population. This situation underscores the urgent need for sustained and enhanced efforts in organ donation and transplantation practices across Member States.
