Tunisia - Algeria: Agencies
Tunisian and Algerian civil protection teams were able to control a forest fire that broke out in the border area of "Al-Hadab" and cooling operations are underway, according to Cairo News Network.
The fire destroyed about half a hectare of forest, according to what the Director of Civil Protection in Jendouba confirmed to the Tunis Africa News Agency.
According to the same source, civil protection agents in the region and their counterparts from Algeria and the rest of the interveners are in the process of cooling the areas that the fire has consumed and tracking down pockets that may re-ignite and monitoring developments on the spot. According to what was reported by the Youm7 website in Cairo.
In the same context, firefighting teams in California continued their efforts to control a huge fire that broke out in the north of the state 4 days ago and was fueled on Sunday by strong winds and temperatures that continue to rise, according to what the authorities announced.
According to Sky News, the "Park Fire" fire, which has become one of the largest fires ever recorded in the history of this state, located in the western United States, has consumed more than 144,500 hectares of green spaces by Sunday evening.
The Park Fire, which broke out near the town of Chico, is the seventh most destructive fire in state history.
Firefighters had some success on Saturday, taking advantage of weaker winds and cooler temperatures, and were able to control the fire by 12 percent.
But weather conditions favored the fire on Sunday, as temperatures rose and winds intensified, and the fire has so far forced the evacuation of 4,200 people in Butte County.
Firefighters are battling the blaze in a mountainous area about 90 miles (145 kilometers) from Sacramento, the state capital.
Authorities have mobilized 4,000 firefighters, helicopters, planes and bulldozers to tackle the fire, which has not caused any casualties so far but has damaged 67 buildings.
Chico is about 12 miles (20 kilometers) west of Paradise, which was destroyed in a 2018 wildfire that killed 85 people and was the deadliest fire in California history.
Winds caused smoke from the Park Fire to travel to other neighboring states. Police arrested a 42-year-old man on Thursday on suspicion of starting the fire by throwing a burning car into a ravine.
