Talks between Egypt and the European Commission in the field of energy.. on the sidelines of the African Hydrogen World Summit held in Namibia

The European Commission in Brussels said that Commissioner Kadri Simson, in charge of the energy file, will participate in Windhoek, Namibia, starting tomorrow, Monday, in several events that will continue until the fifth of this month on the sidelines of the African Hydrogen World Summit. The Commission added that the European official will hold meetings on the sidelines of the summit with a number of officials in the field of energy in several countries from around the world who are participating in the conference activities. The Commission indicated that on Wednesday, Ms. Kadri Simson will hold a meeting with Mr. Tom Aluendo, Minister of Mines and Energy in Namibia; and will hold a meeting with Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Kamal Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt; and will participate on the same day in a discussion panel at the African Hydrogen World Summit on "Achieving Energy Transition in Africa through Developing the Global Energy Map." The summit is sponsored and hosted by the Government of Namibia, supported by the Namibian Ministry of Mines and Energy and in partnership with the Namibia Investment and Development Promotion Board, from 3 to 5 September 2024.
Under the theme “From Aspiration to Action: Fueling Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution”, the dynamic three-day summit will bring together heads of state, ministers, business leaders, project developers, investors, technologists and end-users from across Africa and around the world to drive critical partnerships, investments and financing for bankable green energy projects with strategic and national objectives.
A few days ago, within the framework of joint cooperation and strategic relations between Egypt and the European Union, and the efforts of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to expand the deployment of renewable energy uses from wind and solar and reduce carbon emissions, and in light of the National Strategy for Integrated and Sustainable Energy, which aims to reach 42% of total energy generated from renewable energy by 2030, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, held a meeting with a delegation from the European Union via video conference, to discuss areas of cooperation In the field of electricity and renewable energy
Discussing current and future projects in the electricity sector and the role played by international partners, most notably the European Union, in providing technical support and financing for these projects
The meeting discussed developments regarding the electrical interconnection between Egypt and Europe through the connection with both Greece and Italy, as in 2023 the electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Greece (GREGY) with a capacity of 2000 megawatts was included in the final list of projects of mutual benefit PMI in the European Union (PMI List),
The meeting discussed the strategy of the electricity and energy sector, which is being implemented in cooperation with the European Union to ensure the diversification of the energy mix from all sources, which is being updated in light of global developments related to renewable energy technologies, the development of energy storage systems and the move towards green hydrogen. The meeting discussed the TMed initiative, which aims to export green energy to the European Union through the participation of the private and public sectors to expand investments, reduce risks and provide tangible pilot projects to achieve the basic objectives of this initiative, which is a clear message to partner countries
