European Commission proposes new law to speed up deportation of illegal immigrants

Brussels: Europe and Arabs - Agencies
Hours before the European summit scheduled in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, which will discuss many international and regional files, including the developments in the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, immigration, economic and security files, and others, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed, in a letter to the member states of the European Union, new legislation to speed up the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Von der Leyen said - according to the French newspaper "Le Figaro" - that "the Commission will submit a new legislative proposal, which clearly defines the obligations of cooperation regarding deported persons, and effectively simplifies the deportation processes," in response to the request of many member states of the European Union. She added, "We need a new legislative framework to enhance our ability to act."
Von der Leyen sent this letter to the European Union countries, ahead of the European summit scheduled to be held in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, part of which will be devoted to discussing immigration issues.
Brussels also proposes facilitating the deportation of irregular residents, particularly by adopting a system whereby all EU countries would recognize any deportation decision taken by any member state. According to what was reported by the Youm7 website in Cairo, von der Leyen said, "We must build a level of coordination and trust that ensures that any migrant who has been issued a deportation order in one country cannot exploit loopholes in the system to avoid this deportation"; by going to another EU country.
