Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
European media outlets in Brussels were interested in Palestinian photographer Mohammed Al-Za'noun (38 years old) receiving the "Most Resilient Journalist" award for his photos he took from Gaza. The Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad said on Tuesday morning that Palestinian photographer Mohammed Al-Za'noun received the "Most Resilient Journalist" award from Free Press Unlimited, an international organization that defends press freedom, for his work in Gaza. The newspaper said that he started as a photographer when he was 18 years old, and that Za'noun was seriously injured by Israeli fire, but continued to work.
During the current war, he was forced to pull his children out from under the rubble after an Israeli missile destroyed his home. He has now been living in Egypt for several months. The jury report that awarded the award said: "Mohammed wrote about Gaza while at great risk to his life." Al-Za'noun said: "I have seen the horror of war." “My home was destroyed. Everything I dreamed of in Gaza was destroyed. The stones, the people, the trees, the institutions, the streets, the hospitals, the children. Everything was destroyed. And yet, as journalists, we continue to work tirelessly to show the world what is happening. However, Al-Za’noon’s work also shows the beauty and love in Gaza. The images clearly resonate, as he has more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram.
