Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Council website in Brussels deleted the statement it issued shortly before "4:00 PM Brussels" on Thursday. The statement related to the first summit between Egypt and the European Union, the first summit at the leaders' level between Egypt and the European Union. European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will represent the European Union at the first-of-its-kind summit. Egypt will be represented by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. In a statement to the "Europe and Arabs" website, an official source from Brussels, who declined to be named, said, "The visit will take place before the end of this year, as previously announced, but a final agreement has not been reached on the exact date, which is why European institutions have subsequently removed the statement."
The summit will focus on bilateral relations and deepening the political and economic partnership, in accordance with the comprehensive strategic partnership between the European Union and Egypt, with the aim of promoting stability, peace, and shared prosperity. The leaders will also discuss current global challenges, including the situation in the Middle East, Russian aggression against Ukraine, multilateralism, trade, migration, and security.
