Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Commission in Brussels has launched a call for evidence to support the upcoming review of the EU Energy Security Framework, a key initiative to secure the future of Europe's energy system.
A statement issued by the Commission, the EU's executive body, said, "While the current framework has ensured reliable and stable energy supplies, the evolving geopolitical, technological, and climate landscape requires a more flexible and adaptive approach. This review, outlined in the Affordable Energy Action Plan, aims to strengthen the EU's energy system's ability to anticipate and respond to new challenges."
The updated framework, scheduled to be adopted early next year, will draw on lessons learned from recent crises and focus on strengthening the EU's ability to address traditional and emerging threats. Improving the availability of energy supplies at all times and better preparedness for periods of supply shortages is crucial to ensuring EU citizens continue to have access to affordable energy.
"Europe's energy system is exposed to new risks, such as cyberattacks, the impacts of climate change, and a volatile geopolitical situation," said Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing. For energy supplies to remain stable and secure across our continent, we need a stronger and more forward-looking European framework. This review is essential to ensuring energy security in the EU, not only for the present, but also for the future." The European statement, distributed Monday in Brussels, concluded: "We call on citizens, professionals, and experts to contribute evidence and ideas until October 13, 2025.
