In 2022, there were 37,643 road accidents with a total of 46,074 injuries, including 42,134 minor injuries and 3,400 serious injuries. There were 540 people, including 102 cyclists, who died within 30 days of the accident.
This is evidenced by the latest figures on road accidents published by the Belgian statistical office Statbel.
The limit of 100 cyclist deaths has been exceeded
While the majority (40%) of those killed within 30 days were motorists (216 people), cyclists accounted for a fifth (19%) of those killed. 102 cyclists died within 30 days of an accident in 2022. This represents an increase of 7.4% compared to 2019. While all road safety indicators have been declining for years, the number of cyclists involved in road accidents continues to increase Height.
