Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Group Combating Islamophobia in Europe (CCIE) has published the findings of its annual report on Islamophobia in Europe. She added in a statement, a copy of which we received via email this Wednesday morning, that this document provides an analysis of its data in addition to an overview of the French and European political context with regard to hostility towards Muslims. The report also includes numbers and details about the most prominent trends for the year 2023, the most prominent of which are:
- Alarming outbreak of moral harassment (300% increase)
- The continued gendered nature of anti-Islamic violence
In France, schools are at the top of the list of places where Islamophobia is widespread
The violent far right remains a relative blind spot
- The increasing phenomenon of Islamophobia linked to the Israeli war on Gaza
- Criminalizing immigrants and their supporters
The organization said, “The French Ministry of the Interior’s figures do not reflect the true extent of the phenomenon of Islamophobia in the country: If official figures indicate a 30% increase in racism against Muslims from 2022 to 2023, our figures reveal an increase of 58%, which represents an increase.” Big, big difference.
She added, “CCIE is committed, through this report and through all its work, to raising public awareness, enhancing understanding of Islamophobia and enabling action that is as adapted as possible to the reality of this phenomenon.
