The European Union expressed its regret over the recent execution of 13 individuals that took place on the same day in Iraq. The European Union is also concerned about reports that up to 250 people are at imminent risk of execution in the country. The statement added, “The European Union reiterates, in principle, its strong opposition to the death penalty at all times and in all circumstances. It is a cruel and inhuman punishment, and represents a complete deprivation of the right to life and human dignity.
