Dutch Arnhem: Europe and the Arabs
The leader of the PEGIDA movement, Edwin Wagensfeld, was arrested yesterday, Wednesday. This happened after he dragged the Qur’an across the street in Arnhem with a leather belt designed to tie dogs when walking them into the street. Thus, he violated the region's ban that had been previously imposed on him by the city's mayor, Ahmed Markouch, who is of Moroccan Islamic origin, and the leader of the far-right Pegida movement had objected to this.
An exception to the area entry ban has been applied to deal with an emergency order at the court in Arnhem. But Wagensfeld was not allowed to commit “other acts,” police confirmed to X. He was arrested because he left the Qur’an lying around, dropped it on the ground and dragged it across the street.
Despite the arrest, the case continued as usual. Wagensfeld entered the courtroom accompanied by the prosecutor's office. The judge will rule on this case on Friday.
After the hearing, police took Wagensfeld to the cell block. The police do not yet want to say when the Pegida leader will be released.
Wagensfeld wanted to burn the Qur’an last Saturday
Based on the ban imposed on the area by the city's mayor, Ahmed Markush, the Pegida leader was not allowed to appear in Arnhem at all for six months. Wagensfeld had previously announced that he might demonstrate before the objection was heard. The police had prepared for such action.
The leader of the far-right organization was banned from entering the region because he wanted to burn the Holy Qur’an in Arnhem last Saturday. It was forbidden, but he was determined to come. Noureddine Al-Omrani, a researcher on community affairs in the Netherlands, said in statements to “Europe and the Arabs” that the leader of Pegida, Edvin Waensfeld, was arrested and placed in the Palace of Justice in the city of Arnheim. The latter has many precedents for the crime of burning the Qur’an in various cities and villages in the Netherlands. Adding that the Mayor of the city of Arnheim, Mr. Ahmed Markush, by virtue of his position, demanded that the city be closed in the face of the extremist leader of the PEGIDA movement, Edvin Wagensfeld, who is known for his hatred and hatred for Islam. Al-Omrani added that Ahmed Markoush, the mayor of the city who watches over the security and stability of the city and is the father of the citizens, and by virtue of his security position, called for the rejection of such leakage of germs that threaten the stability of the city of Arnheim and called for closing the city’s face towards the extremist Edvin Wagensfeld. On Wednesday, the police were able to arrest the extremist. Leader of the PEGIDA movement, he was taken directly to the Palace of Justice in Arnheim after the latter insulted the Qur’an.
