G7 Foreign Ministers Urge All Parties to Refrain from Perpetuating the Current Destructive Cycle of Retaliatory Violence, Refuse to Address Israel Directly

We, the Foreign Ministers of the G7 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America) and the High Representative of the European Union, express our deep concern about the rising level of tension in the Middle East, which threatens to ignite a wider conflict in the region. We urge all parties concerned once again to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, to reduce tensions and to engage constructively towards de-escalation. No country or nation can benefit from further escalation in the Middle East. According to a joint statement, a copy of which was distributed today in Brussels
The ministers thus avoided directly calling on Israel, which has been the one that has escalated throughout the past period by continuing to bombard Palestinian areas, areas in southern Lebanon and in Iran
