European Commissioner Johansson visits Egypt to enhance cooperation on migration and security

The European Commission said in Brussels that on September 9 and 10, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, will visit Egypt to strengthen ongoing cooperation between the European Union and Egypt in the field of migration and security.
The Commissioner will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Expatriates, Badr Abdel Aty, to discuss ongoing comprehensive cooperation in the field of migration and protection, among other topics.
The Commissioner will also meet with the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Ahmed Abdel Meguid Sakr, as well as the Minister of Justice, Adnan El-Fangary.
According to the visit program announced in a statement by the European executive body, Commissioner Johansson will also visit the UNHCR reception center for refugees in Giza, where registration and refugee status determination are carried out with financial support from the European Union.
This visit comes following the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024 by President von der Leyen and President Sisi.
Migration and security are key pillars of a broad partnership, supported by a large financial and investment package.
