The number of corona infections in Belgium continues to fall sharply and there are also fewer  people in hospital with Covid-19.

Less than ten corona patients now die every day. This is evident from a new update from Sciensano on Tuesday. Between July 30 and August 5, an average of 2,900 infections were diagnosed daily, a decrease of 27 percent on a weekly basis.

During the same period, an average of 11,359 tests were performed daily. The positivity ratio dropped to 28.2 percent. The reproduction number, which indicates the extent to which the pandemic is spreading, is 0.86. The number of deaths decreased by 32 percent between July 30 and August 5 to a daily average of 9.6. Since the start of the pandemic, 32,329 people have already died from the consequences of a corona infection in our country. The number of new hospital admissions is also declining. Between August 2 and August 8, an average of 106.7 people with Covid-19 were still hospitalized, a decrease of 17 percent. Currently 1,640 people are in hospital (-14 percent), of whom 124 require intensive care (+2 percent).
