European Union Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell will take part in Barcelona, Spain, Thursday, in the 7th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the European Union and the Southern Neighborhood.
A statement in Brussels issued by Borrell's office said, "Both events are considered occasions for the European Union to strengthen regional cooperation with Mediterranean countries, enhance integration and interdependence, and develop new opportunities and perspectives for both sides of the partnership and the countries of the region."
This morning, Borrell co-chairs the Union for the Mediterranean Regional Forum, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi. The forum will also be attended by foreign ministers and representatives of the 42 member states of the Union for the Mediterranean and hosted by Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
In the afternoon, Borrell will chair the EU-Southern Neighborhood Ministerial Meeting, which will focus on the global consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine as well as on various common themes and areas. Interest in deepening cooperation.
The EU's cooperation and partnership with its southern neighbors is of particular importance to face the global consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine and to work on many topics of relevance to both sides, such as social and economic issues, combating climate change, and energy policy. and immigration issues.
