Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The current rotating Swedish presidency of the European Union said that the upcoming summit tomorrow between the European Union and Ukraine will carry a message of strong and consistent support. "We stand firmly with Ukraine, for as long as it takes," she added in a tweet
The presidency said that Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson will participate in the European Parliament debate today before the EU-Ukraine summit scheduled for Friday. The discussion will address the political, military, economic and humanitarian support provided by the European Union to Ukraine and the pressure on Russia.
Debate in the European Parliament ahead of the EU-Ukraine Summit on Friday will focus on broad EU support for Ukraine and Ukraine's process to develop closer relations with the EU. Friday's summit will be the first between the EU and Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion, and the first since Ukraine was granted candidate nation status.
The summit is expected to confirm the EU's continued and unwavering support for Ukraine. Work will continue to ensure accountability for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
For her part, and on her fourth visit to Kyiv since the start of the war... the President of the European Commission, von der Leyen, also affirmed the support of the European Union to Ukraine, after she arrived in Kyiv, accompanied by 15 commissioners from the members of the executive body of the Union, to meet with the Ukrainian government to prepare for a summit tomorrow. EU Spokesperson Luis Miguel Bueno described it as a highly symbolic visit, and High Coordinator for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell said in a tweet that he had arrived in Kyiv to convey the strongest message of support from the European Union to Ukrainians who are defending their country. According to Borrell, "European Union aid has reached 50 billion euros since the beginning of the Russian war. Europe has stood united with Ukraine since day one. I will stand with you to win and rebuild."
