Nearly 1,000 companies declared bankruptcy last month in Belgium

In February 2024, the company courts registered 994 bankruptcies. This represents an increase of 5.5% compared to January 2024 (942). According to what the Belgian statistics agency Statbel published, it included an expanded report that includes the most important developments in the monthly bankruptcy figures.
According to a statement we received from the Belgian Statistics Office, the number of bankruptcies recorded in February 2024 is higher compared to the same month in 2023 (+20.0%) and in 2022 (+35.1%). This is the highest value for February in Belgium since the previous record in 2014 (931).
At the regional level, the number of bankruptcies increased compared to January 2024 in the Flemish Region (+17.7%) and in the Walloon Region (+7.6%). The number of bankruptcies registered in February 2024 compared to February 2023 in the Flemish Region (+19.8%) and in the Walloon Region (+8.1%) and compared to February 2022 increased by 58.1% and 19%, respectively.
This is the highest value for February in the Flemish Region since the previous record in 2023 (612 versus 511), while it is enough to go back to February 2020 to find more bankruptcies in the Walloon Region for the month (243 versus 511). To find 241 companies.
