Most diseases are caused by incorrect nutrition and what it contains of bad eating habits that cause the conversion of good nutrients present in food and drinks into bad substances that cause many diseases, which is a huge economic loss.
Food behaviors that cause health problems
• Using frying oil for several times causes the destruction of vitamins and the formation of complex polymers and oxidation products of the oil, most of which are harmful to health, and some of them are substances that cause cancer.
• Excessive consumption of soft drinks containing sugar and sugar-sweetened juices instead of drinking water poses a threat to health. It is advised to replace them with water, coffee and tea without sugar or bleach.
• Excessive consumption of processed meat such as luncheon meat, salami, sausage and bluebeef, one of the most dangerous types of protein, as it is closely linked to high levels of sugar in the blood, in addition to the fact that nitrates added to it along with saturated fats increase the rates of heart disease.
• Exerting violent effort immediately after eating, such as doing sports training, disrupts the digestion process, while moderate exercise, about an hour after eating, helps digestion.
• Some workers who make a physical effort eat large amounts of sugar or starches in the belief that they will resist their feeling of fatigue, which is a mistake, as the body in this case needs thiamine (vitamin B), as it plays an important role in the metabolism of carbohydrates.
• Some people eat vegetables after peeling them, such as cucumbers, thus losing their vitamin A content, which is found in the green peel
• Eating a large amount of white bread is a major cause of obesity, and the change in the level of sugar in the blood is due to eating carbohydrates in large quantities, such as bread, pasta and pizza. The maximum daily need for the body is not more than a quarter of a loaf of brown bread with a portion of the meal, and the increase in carbohydrates increases the feeling of hunger after 3 hours and raises the level of sugar in the blood.
• Eating hydrogenated oils, which are the most dangerous types of fats, as 1 gm per day increases the risk of coronary and cerebral atherosclerosis by 93%. These oils are also found in pastries, cakes, sweets, and children's biscuits.
Eating salted fesikh, salted sardines, or dried fish on the first day of Eid al-Fitr causes stomach fatigue after a long fast.
• Increasing rice intake is associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes. In addition, the increase in these carbohydrates lowers high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and raises the level of triglycerides in the blood. The maximum that the body needs is not more than 3 tablespoons of rice, with the necessity of washing the rice before cooking to remove a large amount of starch. Long-grain rice, such as basmati, is somewhat less dangerous, but no more than three tablespoons.
• The increase in the consumption of sugar-containing foods such as ice cream, cakes, and chocolate represents a danger to human health, because sugar is the path to obesity and the end of diabetes.
• Frequent consumption of potatoes in takeaway foods, as they are considered one of the worst types of carbohydrates due to their association with obesity and diabetes. It is advised to stay away from these foods as much as possible.
• There is a link between salt and high blood pressure, heart failure and kidney failure, so salt consumption must be reduced, especially when there are problems such as high blood pressure or kidney problems.
• Eating takeaway foods is one of the most harmful behaviors due to the high percentage of starches, hydrogenated oils, sugar and potatoes. It also prepares quickly, which makes it lose the necessary nutrients with food
We have to improve food culture to increase awareness of dietary behavior and quit bad habits, thus reducing the chance of contracting diseases caused by malnutrition. One of the best solutions to this problem is to replace bad eating habits with good ones that suit the Egyptian taste by developing a strategic plan to eliminate the bad eating habits of Egyptians.
