The European Commission in Brussels issued a statement this morning on behalf of the President of the European Union's Executive Body, Urula von der Leyen, following the announcement of Donald Trump's success in the US presidential race for the White House.
Von der Leyen said in the statement, "I warmly congratulate Donald Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. I look forward to working with President Trump again to advance a strong transatlantic agenda.
The European Union and the United States are more than just allies. We are bound by a true partnership between our peoples, uniting 800 million citizens. This bond is deep-rooted, rooted in our shared history, our commitment to freedom and democracy, and the common goals of security and opportunity for all.
